What the data says
An overview of the public data behind BDX.
At $184.74, BDX trades near the upper end of its 52-week band of $127.59 to $193.07 — roughly 45% above the low and within about 4% of the high. That spread is wide for a large-cap medical products company, which means the past year has covered a full round trip from a depressed base back toward the top of the range rather than a steady drift.
The market caps the business at about $50.3 billion. Trailing earnings put it at roughly 32 times profit, while the forward multiple sits near 13.9 — a gap that reflects a large expected step up in earnings rather than anything visible in the trailing figures. Against book value the stock is priced at about 2.1 times. Reported profitability is thin for the sector: a 4.2% net margin on revenue growing about 5.4% year over year, so the trailing multiple is being set against a comparatively small earnings base. The dividend yield of 2.27% and a beta of 0.28 describe a stock that has moved with only a fraction of the broader market's swings, which is consistent with how defensively this kind of name tends to trade.
Recent headlines are almost entirely sector- and market-level rather than company-specific. The flow is dominated by third-party market-research reports on categories where BD competes — multiplex assays, syringe filling machinery, antimicrobial resistance surveillance, apheresis, blood transfusion diagnostics, bloodstream infection testing — plus two broader investing pieces, one on holding through a possible market downturn and one framing medical suppliers as exposure to the GLP-1 buildout. There is no recent news here tied to BD's own results, management, or operations.
