What the data says
An overview of the public data behind VMI.
Valmont's shares closed at $480.67, sitting nearer the upper half of a 52-week band that runs from $353.41 to $585.71. That span is wide — the high is roughly 66% above the low — and the current level leaves the stock about 18% below its 52-week peak and roughly 36% above its trough, so the past year has involved a meaningful round trip rather than a steady drift in one direction.
At roughly $8.9 billion in market capitalization, the business trades at about 17.8 times trailing earnings and 17.6 times forward estimates, meaning the market is applying almost the same multiple to expected earnings as to reported ones. The price-to-book ratio near 5.1 is a good deal higher than the earnings multiple, which is common for a manufacturer whose value rests more on production capability and installed customer relationships than on the book value of its assets. Profitability comes through at an 11.7% net margin on revenue growth of about 6.5%, and the dividend yield is modest at 0.59%. A beta of 1.33 indicates the shares have historically moved with the broader market but with amplified swings in both directions.
The recent news flow is notably light on company-specific developments. Most of the headlines are sector and market-sizing reports covering the end markets Valmont serves — solar PV mounting systems, transmission towers, utility poles, and automated irrigation — alongside one item on a peer in the irrigation space and a broad market wrap tied to oil prices and geopolitical developments. Read together, the coverage is about the industries the company operates in rather than about Valmont itself, so anyone tracking the stock through news alone has been getting a picture of sector demand conditions rather than of the company's own results or announcements.
