What the data says
An overview of the public data behind MTZ.
At $263.10, MasTec trades roughly 40% below its 52-week high of $441.43 while sitting about 64% above the $160.08 low. That range is unusually wide — the high is nearly two and a half times the low — so the past year has covered a lot of ground in both directions, and the current price falls in the lower-middle third of it rather than near either extreme.
The market values the business at about $21.1 billion, or 41.8 times trailing earnings and 6.2 times book value. The forward multiple of 19.1 is less than half the trailing figure, which reflects expectations of considerably higher earnings ahead rather than any change in the current price. Those expectations sit against a thin profit margin of 3.1%, characteristic of contracting work where large revenues convert into modest bottom-line dollars, alongside revenue growth of 23.4% over the trailing period. In short, the earnings base is small relative to the revenue passing through it, and the trailing multiple is largely a function of that.
Recent coverage has been thematic rather than company-specific. The headlines cluster around infrastructure and energy demand tied to AI data center buildouts, construction stocks as a group, and fund positioning — including one piece noting a fund exiting a $38 million stake in an infrastructure name after a 124% run. Several items are broad screens or fund-flow stories that mention the company in passing. There are no earnings releases, contract awards, or management announcements in this window, so the news flow says more about how investors are framing the sector than about developments at the company itself.
