What the data says
An overview of the public data behind VSAT.
At $82.90, Viasat sits near the upper end of a 52-week range that runs from $25.50 to $93.03 — roughly 11% below the high and more than three times the low. A range that wide over a single year describes a stock that has re-rated dramatically rather than drifted, and the current price places it in the top portion of that band. A beta of 1.73 fits that history: the shares have tended to move considerably more than the broad market in both directions.
The market is valuing the roughly $11.4 billion business at about 2.4 times book value, while the forward P/E of about 497 reflects expected earnings that remain very small relative to the share price. The trailing profitability figures explain part of that gap — a net profit margin of about -0.6% puts the company just below breakeven, and revenue has contracted about 1.2% over the comparison period. Taken together, the numbers describe a business whose current price rests on expectations well ahead of its present earnings base rather than on trailing results.
Recent coverage splits between company-specific developments and the wider satellite theme. Company-level items include a demonstration of integrated automotive satellite voice calling with BMW Group in July, and commentary on defense and Space Force-related work in June. The rest is sector framing: several pieces position Viasat as one route to satellite-economy exposure for investors who cannot access SpaceX directly, along with head-to-head comparison articles against other network and space names. Two separate June headlines noted sharp single-day moves in the stock, consistent with the volatility the 52-week range and beta already imply.
