What the data says

An overview of the public data behind TER.

At $370.19, Teradyne sits about 24% below its 52-week high of $487.91 and more than three times its 52-week low of $109.56. That is an unusually wide band — the high is roughly four and a half times the low — and it describes a stock that has been repriced dramatically over the past twelve months rather than one that has held a settled range. The current quote falls in the upper third of that band, closer to the high than the low.

The market is carrying the business at roughly $59.4 billion, or about 52 times trailing earnings and about 33 times forward estimates; the distance between those two multiples reflects expectations that earnings will be materially higher going forward. Price to book near 18.9 shows how much of that valuation rests above the stated value of the balance sheet. The underlying operations convert about 26 cents of every revenue dollar into profit, with revenue reported up sharply — roughly 104% — year over year. The dividend is nominal at 0.14%, so almost the entire return profile is tied to the share price itself, and with a beta of 1.78 that price has historically moved considerably more than the broad market in both directions.

Recent news flow divides into two strands. The company-specific items are narrow: coverage of demand for its UltraFLEXplus test platform measured against peers KLA and Cohu, and two pieces examining the stock's 13.7% move since its last earnings report. The larger share of the flow is about the neighborhood rather than the company — AI-driven results at Dell, an AI memory rally, a sharp decline at Vertiv, and speculation about the industrial winners from humanoid robotics. Much of what has been written recently is therefore about conditions across semiconductor equipment, AI infrastructure, and robotics broadly, with Teradyne appearing as one name within those themes.
