What the data says

An overview of the public data behind QMCO.

At $12.04, Quantum trades in the upper half of a 52-week range that runs from $4.19 to $18.48 — a high more than four times the low. A band that wide is unusual for a company of this size, and the roughly $474 million market capitalization means relatively small dollar moves translate into large percentage swings. The beta of 3.0 is consistent with that: the shares have historically moved about three times as much as the broader market, in both directions.

The valuation figures describe a business the market is pricing on what comes next rather than on what it currently earns. The trailing profit margin is negative at about -36%, meaning the company loses roughly 36 cents on every dollar of revenue, while revenue is growing at about 27% year over year. Book value is negative — the price-to-book of -0.89 reflects liabilities exceeding assets on the balance sheet — so that ratio carries no useful comparison here. The forward P/E of 37.6 prices the shares against expected future earnings well above the market's typical multiple, which is the arithmetic consequence of a company that is unprofitable today being valued on a projected profit.

The recent news flow is company-specific rather than sector-wide, and it is almost entirely legal. Between late October and mid-November 2025, multiple law firms — Rosen, Bragar Eagel & Squire, Bronstein Gewirtz & Grossman, the Schall Law Firm, and the Law Offices of Howard G. Smith — issued notices concerning a securities fraud class action against Quantum, along with an investigation of certain officers and directors on behalf of long-term stockholders. Several of these reference a November 3 lead-plaintiff deadline. None of the headlines on file concern the company's products, customers, or the storage hardware market more broadly.
