What the data says

An overview of the public data behind ABBV.

At $264.96, ABBV closed within about a dollar of its 52-week high of $267.47 and roughly 39% above the $190.75 low at the other end of that range. That span is wide enough to show the stock has repriced substantially over the past year, and the current close sits at the upper edge of it rather than in the middle. A beta of 0.28 puts the day-to-day movement well below that of the broad market, so the range has been traveled with less sensitivity to overall market swings than a typical large-cap name.

The valuation figures pull in two directions. A trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 74.6 is set against a forward multiple of 16.3, a gap that reflects trailing earnings held down relative to what the market currently expects ahead — consistent with a net profit margin of 9.8% on revenue growing about 10.2%. The market capitalization stands near $468 billion, and the dividend yield is 2.61%. Book value is negative, which makes the price-to-book figure of -78.9 uninformative as a valuation measure here rather than a meaningfully low or high one.

Recent coverage has been noticeably light on company-specific developments. Most of the past two weeks' headlines are sector-level: comparisons among healthcare and biotech ETFs, a piece on Vertex Pharmaceuticals, and quarterly results from Nxera Pharma. Where AbbVie appears by name, it is in head-to-head comparison pieces against Bristol-Myers Squibb and CVS Health rather than in reporting on its own results, pipeline, or operations. The news flow in this window is therefore more about how the healthcare sector is being framed than about anything new disclosed by the company itself.
