What the data says

An overview of the public data behind MRNA.

Moderna trades at $145.13, closer to the upper end of a 52-week band that runs from $22.28 to $176.66 — a range in which the high is roughly eight times the low. That spread is unusually wide for a company of this size and tells you the stock has repriced dramatically over the past year rather than drifting; the current level sits well above the lows but still meaningfully below the peak.

At a market capitalization of about $58 billion, the market is valuing the business on something other than current earnings. Forward P/E is negative at roughly -31.7, and the profit margin of about -141% shows the company is spending far more than it takes in, with revenue growth of roughly 2% over the period measured. Price-to-book near 8.6 puts the valuation at a large multiple of the accounting value of its assets, which is where the market's assessment is being expressed given the absence of profits. Beta of 0.90 indicates the shares have moved slightly less than the broad market on average, though that figure sits oddly against a year in which the price traveled the range described above.

Recent coverage is a mix of company-specific and sector-wide items. The company-specific news centers on clinical progress — reporting that Moderna and Merck produced the first mRNA cancer vaccine to succeed in a Phase 3 trial, alongside a story on a sharp single-day move in the stock on August 20 and a late-July piece noting the shares had risen nearly 90% year to date. The remainder of the flow is broader healthcare and biotech: a global influenza vaccine market report listing Moderna among more than a dozen players, and several items about Tempus AI and Ionis that reflect sector attention rather than developments at this company.
