What the data says

An overview of the public data behind PSX.

Phillips 66 closed at $255.09, within a few dollars of its $260.68 fifty-two-week high and roughly twice the $126.74 low at the other end of that range. A band that wide over a single year points to a stock that has traveled a long way rather than one that has held a narrow, settled level, and the current price sits at the upper end of it. The beta of 0.70 adds a wrinkle to that picture: despite the size of the move, the shares have historically traced a smaller swing than the broad market on an average day.

At about $102 billion in market capitalization, the business trades at roughly 14.6 times trailing earnings and 12.0 times forward estimates — the gap between the two reflecting expectations that earnings will be higher ahead than behind. Price to book sits near 3.2. The profitability figures are those of a refining and marketing business rather than a high-margin one: a 4.7% profit margin means the company keeps a few cents of each revenue dollar, so results are sensitive to the spread between input and output prices rather than to volume alone. Revenue grew 53% over the comparison period, and the dividend yields about 2.0%.

The recent news flow is a mix of company-specific and sector-wide coverage. The items directly about Phillips 66 look at the stock's 23.9% move since the last earnings report, progress toward a $5.50 refining cost target set for 2027, and an insider's exercise of options following a strong quarter. Around those sit stories about the wider energy complex — Par Pacific's balance sheet, a Kinder Morgan pipeline agreement, and refiners broadly moving with oil prices — alongside a few headlines with no connection to the company. Taken together, coverage centers on refining economics and the sector's response to crude prices as much as on Phillips 66 itself.
