What the data says
An overview of the public data behind IRWD.
At $4.23, the stock sits toward the upper end of a 52-week range that runs from $0.72 to $5.78 — a band in which the high is roughly eight times the low. A spread that wide over a single year points to a stock that has repriced dramatically rather than drifted, and the current price sits close to six times the low while remaining about 27% below the high. Market capitalization is around $696 million, so this remains a small-cap name despite the move.
On the earnings the company currently reports, the market is applying a low multiple: roughly 6.8 times trailing earnings and about 2.9 times forward earnings, the gap between the two reflecting expectations for higher earnings ahead. The business itself is reported as profitable, with a net margin near 28%, alongside revenue growth of about 159% over the comparison period. Price-to-book is negative, which happens when liabilities exceed assets on the balance sheet and makes that particular ratio uninformative here. Beta of 0.21 indicates the shares have historically moved largely independently of the broader market, so the price swings above are company-specific rather than inherited from the index.
Recent coverage is mostly about the company itself rather than the wider drug sector. The most recent items, from early 2026, focus on LINZESS net pricing being framed as a growth driver and on the stock's position among low-priced names with earnings momentum; one broader market wrap from January mentions the sector only in passing. Further back, the flow is more mixed: an April 2025 report of an FDA request for an additional trial on a gastrointestinal drug, which coincided with a sharp price decline, and 2024 items covering quarterly results that fell short of estimates. Taken together, the news history tracks a single-product commercial story and its pipeline decisions rather than industry-wide developments.
