What the data says

An overview of the public data behind EIX.

At $53.98, Edison International sits close to the bottom of a 52-week range that runs from $52.00 to $81.62 — a span wide enough that the stock has given back most of a move covering roughly a third of its own value, and it currently trades nearer the low end of that band than the high.

The market is pricing the business at about $21.3 billion, or roughly 5.7 times trailing earnings and 8.5 times forward estimates, with shares changing hands at about 1.2 times book value. The gap between the trailing and forward multiples reflects expectations of lower earnings ahead rather than a re-rating upward. Underneath that, the business itself remains profitable, converting about 19.3% of revenue into net income, though revenue was down roughly 4.1% over the period measured. The dividend yield stands at about 6.5%, and a beta of 0.65 places the stock's historical movement well below that of the broader market, which is typical of regulated utilities.

Recent coverage is dominated by a sharp single-day decline on August 31 and, days earlier, by wildfire-liability uncertainty at fellow California utility PG&E ahead of an August 31 deadline — so the news flow is a mix of company-specific and sector-wide, with the regulatory and liability backdrop for California electric utilities running through both. Further back, Edison International appears in a lighter register: as a backer of a $28 million Series A for ThinkLabs AI in March, and across several dividend-screening and utility-income articles from 2025 that grouped it with other high-yielding names.
