What the data says

An overview of the public data behind COHR.

At $293.17, the shares sit near the middle of a 52-week band stretching from $100.63 to $440.00 — about a third below the high and close to three times the low. A range that wide within a single year is itself the notable fact: this has not been a stock that trades in a narrow zone. That is consistent with a beta of 2.10, meaning the shares have historically moved roughly twice as much as the broader market in both directions.

The roughly $59.8 billion market capitalization works out to about 74 times trailing earnings and 5.5 times book value, while the forward multiple is far lower at about 22. The size of that gap reflects expectations of substantially higher earnings over the coming year, not a different price. Beneath the multiples, revenue grew about 34%, while the net profit margin is 11.3% — the top line is expanding quickly, but the share of revenue reaching the bottom line remains in the low double digits.

Recent news flow is mostly about the neighborhood rather than the company. The past week's headlines center on sector peers in photonics and optical components, an Adobe earnings report, and commentary on AI demand following Nvidia's earnings call. Two items address Coherent directly: one weighing AI-related growth against the valuation, and one noting a roughly 17% decline over the preceding month. No company-specific operational news — earnings, guidance, or contracts — appears in the current flow.
